APD Training Academy

The Arlington Police Foundation supplies meals for everyone participating in the Six Flags Scenario Training as well as the academy’s Family Night.

For Academy Family Night, they purchase “Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement” books for the families of police recruits and provide meals for both the recruits and volunteers during scenario training. The books are meant to help families understand and cope with the unique challenges police officers face. Sharing these meals encourages bonding, as recruits get to discuss their experiences at the academy with their families and the volunteers who support their training. By reading the book, families can gain valuable insight into ways to support their officer. Meanwhile, recruits, community volunteers, and training officers can strengthen relationships through the shared experience of enjoying a meal together.

In the final phase of the academy, recruits undergo multiple days of reality-based training at Six Flags Over Texas, with officers and volunteers serving as instructors and actors. On the last day, we provide food and snacks to thank them for their support.
