Officer Support
Bicycle Patrol Program
Bicycles provide a discreet and effective approach for addressing crime while simultaneously fostering direct engagement between officers and community members. The use of bicycles extends patrol reach into local strip centers, apartment complexes, and residential neighborhoods, enabling officers to address criminal activity as well as quality-of-life concerns more efficiently. The department acknowledges the value of bicycle patrols as an essential tool in enhancing public safety and community relations.
The Arlington Police Department identified a need for new bicycles due to an aging fleet. A grant request to APF resulted in the purchase of 16 bikes to support patrols at four stations and special events in the entertainment district.
There remains a continual need for deploying bicycles as a resource to manage crime and improve the overall quality of life in apartment complexes and commercial centers throughout the district.
