Arlington Public Safety Cadets Program
Public Safety Cadets serve as an effective means of recruitment and retention for public safety agencies. These programs have consistently demonstrated their
capacity to address challenges in attracting and retaining qualified personnel. Membership is open to individuals aged 14 to 20 who are interested in pursuing a
career in law enforcement. The Arlington Police Department’s Public Safety Cadet Program, formerly known as Explorer Post 602, stands as one of the
longest-running posts in Texas and has introduced hundreds of young people to careers in law enforcement.

Cadet members receive comprehensive training related to police work and experience a structure similar to that of a typical police department, with leadership opportunities available through promotion. Training covers various aspects of law enforcement to prepare cadets for future careers in the field.
Major expenses for the Cadet Program include fees for sending participants to competitions, procurement of necessary equipment such as mock guns and tasers, and costs associated with the Annual Awards Banquet.
